Review of Avenue Montaigne (2006) by Caroline B — 11 Jun 2007
Imagine if the Americans did the unthinkable and tried to remake Amelie without a credible cinematographer or ingenious director. This is the film, except that the supporting cast don't live in Monmatre, but the ritzy suburb of les Invalides and slum all day in theatres, 5-star hotels and auction house.
An enjoyable film that really doesn't have any dilemmas in it whatsoever. Cecile de France is beautiful as always and Valerie Lemercier makes an amazing come-back after the 90's grand-slam of "The Visiteurs".
Hopefully we will see much more of her in the international foreign scene. All and all this is a film set in France for tourists with fantasies of Parisian living.
