Review of Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) by Chris K — 04 Jun 2016
What did people want after the first Avengers? More snappy one liners? More snarky humor? Crazier action sequences? More conflict within the famed group of Superheroes?
Well, Joss Whedon delivers that cake and you can eat it too! A: AoU is an excellent sequel that is overall exactly what I wanted for the second act of the premiere ensemble cast superhero movie. Everyone has their highs and lows, moments of great humor that are well written and funny, and the intense level of action on display gets more and more wild as the film grows in length. Some characters even have their own arcs, making some of the previous characters more fleshed out, which was desperately needed. The special effects are top notch (IMAX 3D was fantastic), and the rest of the sound and scoring was suited to the adventure, never distracting but present and accounted for. Ultron is a great villain, although I feel his screen time was cut too short. It rather felt like "a couple weeks of Ultron" rather than an age. That's what I feel is the biggest misstep - If this movie was 30 minutes longer I honestly wouldn't mind. Joss Whedon and Co. has created an excellent world that I love being in, and in combination with his little touches of character and humor throughout the whole of the film it makes for a rather fantastic ride.
So yeah, absolutely fantastic sequel. While it's too short for my liking, the whole of the film is just more solid entertainment. Just go see it - you won't be sorry!
