Review of Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) by Krastain E — 27 Apr 2018
**Spoiler Alert**.
"THIS WAS NOT EASY.".
I am referring to both the review and, of course, the making of this film. The director, Joss Whedon, has created a film that is the complete mirror image of the box-office juggernaut, The Avengers. Here's why I say that:
The Avengers: Borderline mediocre production quality.
AoU: Better Production Quality!
The Avengers: Has a lighter and colorful aesthetic.
AoU: Darker and bleaker aesthetic.
The Avengers: More fun and witty banter, than serious moments.
AoU: More mature, serious and heartfelt moments, than fun and witty banter.
The Avengers: Good editing!
AoU: Bad, choppy editing somewhat, but not completely distracting.
SEE WHERE I'M GOING W/ THIS.
When I first saw the original Avengers, I was excited to see all the characters unite on the big screen; yet I didn't like the bells, whistles, and hype associated with it as a blockbuster. For that and the reasons above, I had given it a 9/10, but with this movie it is the mirror effect. Avengers: Age of Ultron is, to me, a cinematic milestone in the comic book genre! Everything made sense, if you watched the RIDICULOUSLY MIND-BLOWING amount of fun films for the back-story. The chemistry between characters felt genuine. THE PHENOMENAL VILLAIN-- with the villain it took me some time to realize this. Ultron is based on not Baron von Strucker or Tony Stark's brain wave patterns, but Loki's. Your probably asking, explain. Well Ultron was able to use the scepter in the movie on Helen Cho, when no one else could. Think about it, Loki's scepter housed the stone, had Loki's mental-pattern as a password and the Science Bros. mistakenly broke the passcode and forged Ultron's consciousness from it. Ultron is a combo of Stark's ambition and Loki's madness. Brilliant and Scary Thought-- but ppl hadn't figured it out yet. That may be the fault of the editing. People may say this film is trash now, but films like Pinnochio have changed public opinion over time. The movie, Pinnochio by Walt Disney, had mixed reviews upon release, yet today it's considered to be a classic masterpiece in animation and cinema (ironic isn't it). I see this film is not perfect, no film is, but it is definitely ahead of it's time. That's why I give Avengers: Age of Ultron, 9.5/10 stars.
