Review of Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) by Dan E — 12 May 2018
It may not live up to its predecessor, but "Avengers: Age of Ultron" is more than just another enjoyable addition to the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Earths mightiest heroes assemble once again to fix their own mistakes that put the world, particularly the country of Sokovia and its people in danger.
Let's just say that Tony Stark and Bruce Banner just created an Artificial Intelligence that is obsessed with global extinction and plans to build an army of robot drones. The ensemble cast of the first big crossover returns and is joined by some nice new additions.
Every actor does their part justice, with the strongest performers once again being Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans as Iron Man and Captain America respectively. Joss Whedon delivers once more on the epic scale action sequences and the character interactions.
The visuals are as always great. There are a couple of flaws though. The film introduces a bit too many subplots that don't go anywhere and end up being ditched, which is kinda off putting. The weak link is probably Ultron.
He was advertised as some short of epic villain, but he ends up being rather hollow. It's not that he doesn't have a personality, it's just that he isn't that special. He still manages to cause chaos though and real consequences for the Avengers and the world they live in.
At the end of the day, it's inferior compared to its predecessor but an enjoyable follow-up and a pretty good addition to the franchise and the genre as a whole.
