Review of Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) by Bradysmith — 24 May 2015
A very functional letdown. The action scenes and effects are top notch, and the characters are all still competently written...but it does not add up to a thrilling movie. Sure, some individual scenes are exciting but the movie drags.
The plot is extremely predictable, which is of course true of nearly all superhero movies, but the story doesn't even engage in the moment. Talky scenes are added in which do nothing to enhance the story and end up feeling like mere time wasters.
It did start out well, and did entertain me for a good deal of its running time so I can't say it was bad... but the finale is the same old, same old. You never feel like any of the characters are in danger and none of it is as fun as it should have been.
A big comedown from the exciting first Avengers movie.
