Review of Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) by Destiny L — 07 Mar 2016
Not as bad as I feared! Honestly, it suffered from wanting to do too much, so it ended up feeling a bit too much like ticking check-boxes so that they can make more movies later, and not a film into itself. Also, the way Ultron was handled was super disappointing but not movie-ruining disappointing. (why oh why didn't the writers have the same idea of the villain as the advertisers, so much wonderful screen chewing could have been done, instead we get a bumbling genocidal Pinocchio, yuck) Also, Marvel should institute an "only new female heroes" mantra for the Avengers, because Black Widow is basically our only actually fleshed out female character and the fact that she equivocated being unable to have children with being a monster was super off-putting (it would be fine if there were a fully fleshed out cast of female characters with different opinions on child-birth to offset, but COME ON).
Seriously, surprised it wasn't worse, because this should have been two movies (I almost never say that). Would never re-watch, though.
