Review of Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) by Joefurlan — 20 Dec 2022
If you loved the first one, you will love this one. I did and I do. Most fun I've had in the theater since the last Avatar movie. Look I loved Dune, loved Bladerunner 2049 but this is a different deal.
It's at once lighter and more gut wrenching. Since everything is political these days, here's the deal... people on the right will **** about the woo woo earth Goddess religion, the "noble savage", "native people good/America/military/Corporations/white people bad" angle, and the "save the planet" stuff while people on the left will decry the patriarchal society, the testosterone filled, strong, positive male characters, the emphasis on children and family stuff.
Meanwhile movie snobs will say the classic heroic plot is too cookie cutter and shallow. I say, check your politics at the door and show up for one of the most amazing action adventure stories ever brought to the screen.
Gorgeous, funny, heart felt and unique.
