Review of Avatar (2011) by Matt C — 10 Oct 2014
This film robbed me of my time, patience, and intelligence. The dead horse of a story has been done so many times over and over again (Dances with Wolves, Ferngully, Pocahontas, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, The Last Samurai, The Last of the Mohicans, the list goes on).
I felt dumber by watching this movie the way it talked down to me as a movie goer and how it just wags its finger at humanity just saying that we suck. The villains have no motivation other then they are greedy and want money; they have no depth or character that give them reason or purpose.
They are the most simplistic black and white villains; the corporate bad guy (playing golf in the office) the military bad guy who doesn't care of any type of life. Oh yeah haven't seen those characters in films before; seeing them doing these actions made me physically sick on how many times I have seen this before.
This film gave me no surprises what so ever; just by seeing the three trailers I was able to tell what was going to happen from point A to Z. No twists no turns nothing of any knowledge to give me. Our main character is so bland and boring he practically fades into the special effects.
Bottom line I could go on about how awful this film is and how over bloated it is but I will just say there are many better ways to use your time. I would not recommend it. If you enjoy this film that is fine but it did nothing for me.
