Review of Avatar (2009) by John O — 17 Jan 2014
The storytelling is not the best (stick to just directing, Cameron, let professional writers do their thing) and for me, the movie was ridiculously overlong at nearly three hours. But there's no denying that the visuals are breathtaking, the performances are great and the action is enjoyable whilst still sending good anti-war and environmental messages.
It's Pocahontas IN SPAAAAACCCEEE, sure but at least something happened every once in a while here unlike that movie where, if you omit the songs and wacky slapstick, is actually really boring. Avatar might be the number one overrated film of all time - shame too, I loved Terminator 2, Titanic and Aliens - but remember, overrated doesn't make it inherently bad.
The movie just sold itself on its visuals that are actually for 3D. Even if you don't like the movie, I still think it's worth checking out.
