Review of Avatar (2009) by Kyla D — 22 Feb 2015
Uhg. Are movies so dull and devoid of creativity that this is considered a masterpiece? This may very well be the king of overrated movies, even more overrated than The Hurt Locker. Yes, the production values are amazing, but the positives end there.
The story is so cheesy and predictable that I want to scream. I couldn't have cared less about any of the characters, they're all cliche archetypes. This film's story has been done to death.
Humans come to Pandora, main character is basically tasked with destroying everything, but surprise surprise, he falls in love with a native begins to respect the culture. There's a big epic battle at the end, evil general dude dies, and everyone live happlily ever after, the end.
There wasn't a moment of suspense. This might have been okay it the film was about 2h, but it's almost 3h long! How is this any different than Transformers, people always bash those films for being overlong films with no substance.
Avatar is no different. It's cheesy, uninteresting, and WAY too long. James Cameron really screwed up here. To think the creater of Aliens and T2, two of the best examples of syfy story telling, created this generic mess of a film.
