Avalon is, like Oshiis animated movies, full of longueurs and repeated scenes which makes it borderline boring at times. But bear with him and you'll find this a rather fascinating piece on escapism, even though this VR-stuff seems hardly original today.
Oshii also makes use of changing palettes of colour to great effect.
