Review of Autumn Sonata (1978) by Rod A — 22 Mar 2010
On one hand, this film is a downer. It's talky and extremely introspective. Still, I found myself changed in how I view my relationships once the film had ended. Bergman is relentless in his self examination.
I always feel emotionally exhausted when I finish watching his films. This one is no exception. Another bonus: it's a unique experience to watch Ingrid Bergman performing in her native Swedish as opposed to a Hollywood construct.
You've got to commit to this one, the path is not easy.
