Review of Autumn in New York (2000) by Pascal B — 17 Dec 2009
I think this movie is generally good and isn't too cliche as I've never seen a movie take this route for an ending, of which I don't want to ruin for anyone. I think it's a movie that wants to be better than it is, or maybe you do as the viewer. It's not bad per se' it just has some parts that I don't think a lot of people would agree with. But then again, maybe it's just me. Like the girl is hot and young, so why does she even want to date Richard Gere's older character, and I mean much older. I find a certain grossness to that.
Getting past that though, the movie has charm, drama, and a good supporting cast to keep you interested. Pretty much all the side-stories of the movie play towards Gere's character, so even though Ryder's character has large parts in the movie, you definitely could say that Gere is the star of the film as pretty much everything revolves around him.
I don't know what else to say without giving too much away, you'll like the movie, and since it's probably cheap to buy on amazon, I'd recommend picking it up. It's perfect for a date movie or a tearjerker for your girlfriend, but I don't think it's a life changing you'd die if you didn't see the movie.
In closing getting back to the side-stories, I'm glad the characters involved in them, didn't interact with each other or things would have got really complicated and messy. Which is probably why they didn't of course.
