Review of Autism: The Musical (2007) by Michael S — 06 Oct 2007
This is the best film I've seen at the Vancouver Film Festival this year and one of the most moving documentaries I've seen in some time. The film follows several children with Autism and their families as the children plan and produce a musical for a live audience.
It really opened my eyes to these remarkable human beings - both the children and their parents who would move the world for them. Usually a movie that focuses on children with a disease would seem to scare people away from having children but for me, while I hope my children are born free of any medical disorders, it made me yearn one day bringing a life into the world, to watch them grow and help them develop ( I guess I'll have to get on that.
..) Anyway, while it's sad to see the struggles some people go though, this movie really is a feel-good, inspirational movie about the possibilities out there for autistic children if they have the love and support they deserve.
