Review of Author! Author! (1982) by Wendy S — 05 Dec 2008
Whatever Al Pacino touches turns to gold. Initially getting past the schwanky music in the intro scene was a hard pill to swallow... but see it through... Pacino by the typewriter is worth it. Explores the changing value of marriage (and having children) and ultimately Pacino's depth of character when his wife leaves him .
.. and his script is sinking. REALLY enjoyed the kids' lines! Funny, genuine and well rounded. Especially being a movie made in the 80's, it tackles both the uncommitted mother topic who pulls apart her family whenever she gets an itch, and the experience through kids' eyes as far as what pain is endured when the family isn't solid.
All round romantic, funny, realistic film that doesn't soft step around the difficult issues.
