Review of Australia (2008) by Justin F — 16 Jun 2010
Directed by the same man who directed the magnificent Moulin Rouge so my hopes were high. There are similarities with its fantastic look & feel and a (albeit loose) musical theme. High production values help to give it an epic scale and feel. On thing for sure is that it is epic in length stretching to over 2 1/2 hours long.
Kidman & Jackman (looking as good as ever) are fine and have a reasonable chemistry on screen and the film is helped by having some half decent baddies. My biggest problem is that it was very predictable with the lead romantic roles disliking each other at first (yawn) before falling in love without any real indication as to why they did other than spending some time chasing cows through the outback? Its still worth watching though maybe my hopes were unrealistically high?
