Review of Australia (2008) by Susan A — 21 Dec 2010
The main problem with Australia is how long it is and how much it drags on. The trailer sold us a World War II story that doesn't happen until the last 45 minutes or so of the movie and that would be fine, if the first hour and a half wasn't so boring. I'm sure a lot of people find cattle fascinating, but there are only so many places you can go with trying to get cattle from a place to the other and I think they've covered pretty much everything(they even managed to kill a guy with it).
Once the animals are delivered, the movie reaches its first possible ending. The lady manages to cross the desert with them, make a killer business and even gets a man and a son, so it sort of felt like it was going to end there... But it didn't. The thing drags on and on until we reach the actual war.
So, bottom line: the last 30 minutes are the best reason to watch this. The rest isn't even nearly satisfying. I was expecting a lot more from the team they managed to assemble.
