Review of Auntie Mame (1958) by Kristen R — 01 Feb 2009
I just saw this movie for the first time and can't believe it took me so long. This is a BRILLIANT film! It's funny, it's smart, it's upbeat and it is FULL of great one-liners - the most famous of which goes: "Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!".
Rosalind Russell is fantastic as "Auntie Mame" and the supporting characters, especially the young boy who plays her nephew Patrick, are absolutely delightful foils to Mame's eccentric, but utterly lovable carryings-on.
Truly, if you have never seen this movie, you absolutely MUST go out and rent it IMMEDIATELY!! This is a super feel good movie. You will belly-laugh your way through it, and you cannot help but feel good by the end.
Excellent, EXCELLENT movie! I cannot recommend this film highly enough!!!
