Review of August Rush (2007) by Cassandra R — 14 May 2011
I think this film is over the top in it's exploitation and strain on "sentiment" but it's a sweet film. I'm usually not a fan of sentimental or highly romantic/idealized cinema but I enjoy August Rush.
I tend to settle too firmly into reality, sometimes to a very negative degree so I find watching something highly idealistic and romanticized, a nice break.
It's not for everyone but I was shocked to see it was rated so low because it's not a bad film. It's an idealized, sweet, suspension of reality and if you're not prepared to accept it for what it is, as opposed to what it's not than you're not going to enjoy it.
