Review of August: Osage County (2013) by Panos M — 01 Apr 2014
Two stars and those solely for the efforts of Meryl Streep.
Oddly enough, the dinner scene where her character chides the rest of the attendees for dare thinking they had it rough in childhood...I get it, get over yourself.
I mean you, August: Osage County.
Families are difficult. Most are dysfunctional. This one no less but, honestly, any more?
Sure, the unfortunate and doomed love between one Sister and the sadly beat down, under represented, minor role also seated at the table is hopefully beyond the pale for most of us, but it's failure to resolve is certainly not.
Chris Cooper gives us a warm attempt at bat with a Fathers struggle with keeping peace between a Son he adores and the Wife he loves.
Still, the movie is a morose testament overall and if its creators were hoping to serve up a modern dish of fried green colloquial life on the plains, they might need evaluate the bubble they, themselves, reside because, frankly, for the rest of us there was very little out of the ordinary.
Nothing to see here, Folks.
