Review of August: Osage County (2013) by Roxanne R — 08 May 2014
Well within the realm of reality, this is one of the most dysfunctional, mean and vicious families I have seen portrayed in a motion picture. I have not seen Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine but Meryl Streep steals the show as Violet Weston, a contentious and pill addicted woman going through the grief of losing her alcoholic husband to a drowning incident by a lake.
As Violet's three daughters and their families reunite at the Weston residence in Oklahoma, painful truths will be revealed, and sadly the portrayal of most of the women on this film is so negative.
They are mean, nasty, cruel, and vicious towards family members. The acting of Julia Roberts as Barbara Weston and her husband Bill (Ewan McGregor) was great. Listen carefully- for those undergoing sickness, depression, sadness or family complaints, please watch this film because that is the family from hell and you are bound to feel better not being related to them.
So dysfunctional that I am relieved not to be part of them and hopefully none of you belong to a family like that; but if you do, then you have my sympathies!
