Review of August: Osage County (2013) by Ashish T — 12 Jul 2014
One of the most darkly comedic movies I've come across in quite a while. It's not immediately apparent that this is a comedy; it's a melancholy, faded drama on the surface of lives gone to seed, until you realize that life never goes to seed; under the sepia-toned, cracked and bleached paint, there's a writhing, churning, vital mass of pent-up feeling, rage, fear, despair, and frustration that manifests in a familial Hunger Games analogy; ten tributes shall gather, but only one shall remain, and the ways in which each is dispatched is what adds the hilarity; the kind of just-as-you-though-it-couldn't-get-any-worse-it-does hilarity.
Awesome performances from everyone - it'll suck you in and keep you riveted.
