Review of August: Osage County (2013) by Bob B — 11 Oct 2014
A very evocative stage play well converted to the screen by author Tracy Letts. Meryl Streep WAS the best actress in 2013: as well as we know Meryl, she yet again loses herself in the role of the matriarch of this sublimely dysfunctional family.
We are fascinated, and ultimately disgusted by this character, and we forget who is playing the role. The story is dark in many shapes and facets, yet it is not ultimately a downer. It is literate, well acted, will touch everyone in some way.
.. and is strangely healing in the end. Highly recommended.
