Review of Audrey Rose (1977) by Bill T — 01 Apr 2010
Interesting movie here that starts out amazingly and asks many troubling questions.. What if a wacky guy showed up at your house and says that your kid is, in fact, the reincarnation of his dead kid, and what if he does a good job of proving it? Well, what do you do? This is tres creepy, with Anthony Hopkins doing a good job of getting under out skin while terrifying the cute couple of Marsha Mason and John Beck.
Unfortunately, the film takes a complete left turn after Hopkins is arrested after kidnapping the child and turns into a whole courtroom / psychoanalysis of Audrey Ross with plenty of goofy psychobabble of the day ending with a strange conclusion.
Too bad, as I was totally engrossed and slightly weirded out for the first half.
