I remember seeing this at the VIFF and um, being slightly. um, grossed out by it? That being said, I remembered the you-gotta-see-it-to-believe-it-to-believe-it and bought a DVD of it for my brother so HE could see it (he doesnt like movies with subtitles, I don't think he ever did).

Certainly I DIDNT want to see it again because of that one... scene, but I did, 11 years later! Audition is a very odd, twisted little movie, for the first half it's a relationship movie! Old codger tries to find a wife, he pretends to hold auditions for a movie, where he's auditioning for a wife! If Hollywood did this, you would have a happy go lucky conclusion right? Well, no.

This is Japan, and, most of all, this is the twisted world of one Takashi Miike. Because the 2nd half gets dark. Very very dark. Full of amazing twists and shocks, Miike takes this in a way you can't predict.

He shoots this almost in a dreamlike state, and it's a pretty amazing watch. Definitely not for the squeemish though. Nuh Uh.
