Review of Audition (2000) by Daniel C — 20 Sep 2010
Years after the death of his wife, Aoyama is advised by his son and his best friend to find a new one. In order to do this he sits in on actress auditions and finally finds the One, but is she really all he ever wanted or a nightmare waiting to happen?
I'm not quite sure what to say about Audition even though I think I liked it. Knowing from the start (having read spoilers and reviews in advance) what to expect I sat with great anticipation through the first 2/3's of the film wanting blood. This film, however, turned out to have the biggest twist ever seen in cinema and from being reasonably sweet it dived straight down to plain disturbing. The dismemberment scene is absolutely sickening but still fascinating creative wise.
