Review of Audition (2000) by Darryl K — 03 Oct 2010
You start watching expecting something to happen but no!!! It begins with a slow mysterious pace and as it progresses you might find yourself bored and confused wondering what is the meaning of all this? Just then it happens. A creepy twist followed by a series of intense scenes, making all the waiting worth it!!!
Regarding the plot, I'll only say that this movie teaches us that auditioning to find love is not a good idea, and that looks can be deceiving.
Eihi Shiina who plays Asami can be really strong and calm at the same time, and Ryo Ishibashi as Shigeharu is being a real tragic figure. Both are amazing in delivering the appropriate emotions accordingly to the situation and they progress throughout the movie.
Its definitely weird, tragic, and freaky so I highly recommend it to all fans of Japanese horror movies ;).
