An extremely effective film. It has this slow, subtle build-up that hints at problems, then it hits you with so much. Rarely can films do this so effectively. I was so interested the entire time and I just wanted to know what was happening next.

I really just appreciated how Miike was able to keep me guessing. The torture seen wasn't as gratuitous as I was expecting but it was so damn creepy, especially when Miike tosses in the dreams. Eihi Shiina gave a creepy and memorable performance.

Definitely didn't expect to like this as much as I did.
