I saw the end of this movie years ago and it took me finding it on Netflix to finally get around to watching the entire film, and I'm glad I did. This is a wonderfully disturbing film from one of Japan's most eclectic, prolific, and talented filmmakers working today.

Takashi Miike has directed many, many films, but very few of them actually have cross-over success in the U.S. This was the film that first put is name out there to fans of horror in the West, and rightfully so.

This film is a slow-burn leading up to one of the the most twisted final acts in cinema. The dread that builds from the very beginning is allowed to reach a fevered pitch by the time anything crazy starts happening.

This is what makes this film so good. And of course, the ending sequence, oh man the ending sequence... Definitely essential viewing for any true fan of horror.
