Review of Audience of One (2007) by Martin G — 19 Aug 2007
A great documentary about a San Fransisco pastor who convinces his congregation that they need to make a $50m sci-fi epic about Joseph because God 'told him to'. With no skills, dubious investments and blind (for that read stupid) faith, they go off and try to make a movie. What you see on screen is the car crash that ensues. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so scary - this man has replaced logic, common sense and obeying the law with faith based reality. He genuinely believes he should do what the voices in his head tell him to, because it is God's will. Years ago people like this would have been locked up, now they run churches.
I doubt this will ever get a mainstream release but if you get the chance to see it on TV or at a film festival do so. It will enlighten you and make you fearful at the same time.
