Review of Au Revoir les Enfants (1987) by Matt N — 30 Jul 2007
A touchingly realistic portrayal of the lives of French children during the Nazi occupation. The subtlety and banality of much of the film may prevent any pretenses of greatness, but this ultimately serves to make the tragedy of the story seem more real.
What it lacks in "drama," it more than makes up for in poignant realism.
