Review of Au Hasard Balthazar (1966) by Daniel P — 05 Feb 2006
This movie was...beautiful. I can only equate it to an experience similar to life, and I have to say that Bresson is my new hero. Balthazar is this wonderful metaphor for so many things, and honestly, I just fell in love with him.
Bresson made something that is far from mere on-screen imagery or reproduction of life. He has framed and edited life, like no other filmmaker that I've known of ever has. And the actors...they weren't even acting.
They were just people, in a real world, being filmed. This film felt more genuine and tangible than a documentary. I'm at a loss, really.
