Review of Attack the Block (2011) by Milo S — 06 Apr 2012
It's as if someone decided to remake the essence of a John Carpenter movie - a thrilling sci-f-/horror action flick with some great humor and a brilliant music score. Yes, this movie is yet another "alien invasion" film.
. but when a unique story/script is written with smart direction you can make a tired formula soar. This movie is just great fun on so many levels. I cannot stress enough the important of the explosive tech-heavy score which really pushes the action forward.
We also get to witness the origin of a true anti-hero born in the streets of inner-city London under alien attack. The character of Moses, played by newcomer John Boyega, is the heart of the film as we see him grow to a man with a desire to protect rather than steal and destroy.
Boyega pulls it off in grand fashion, looking like a very young Denzel Washington. I think we will see more of him in the future. In the end this film is a geeky fanboy grand time full of all the things that we love.
Take It takes a nip from many different sources like Escape from NY, The Warriors, Aliens, etc etc but then mixing them in to something very fresh and satisfying, GREAT FILM !! - "It's too much madness to explain in one text!".
