Review of Attack the Block (2011) by Paul B — 12 May 2012

"Well, 'ere, lads, you've discovered a species hitherto unknown to science, quite possibly non-terrestrial in origin, and you kicked its fuckin' head in! ".

Joe Cornish creates a genre film that rips from some of the best sci-fi/horror films going and puts in a little bit of Bad Dad, or at least that's what it reminds me of when Adam and Joe ruled my friday nights with star wars figure sketches long before robot chicken did it. The character of Moses is vile through most of the film as are most of his cohorts but at some point I started wanting him to win and I can only attribute this to good writing since even by the end he was still impossible to like. The comicbook nature of some of the violence and the alien character designs were interesting and well made, the aliens look like aliens from a 90's videogame another world or flashback, can't remember which, and stand out characer was Nick Frost was funny pretty much playing himself.
