Review of Attack the Block (2011) by Shawn E — 20 May 2012
I was really looking forward to seeing this one. The premise sounded like it could be a whole lot of fun (A gang of kids defend their turf against an Alien invasion), but it really doesn't amount to a whole lot more than just the basic idea.
The characters aren't all that enjoyable to follow and even a bit obnoxious. It was hard to relate when practically all their dialogue was incomprehensible behind their thick British gangsta accents.
The alien designs were pretty great and quite effectively frightening and the film sports some good scares and even some well-earned laughs, but the overall picture is quite a bit disappointing.
