Review of Attack the Block (2011) by Jim R — 30 Dec 2015
I can't believe I didn't watch this sooner. The characters, headlined by subtle and compelling Boyega, stand out against a controlled setting and antagonist. The alien design is the sort of fresh, simple, and ferocious that feels inspired.
The block residents are individual and convincing, their reactions and anti-authority postures real to the core. My favorite scene: the squad getting prepped to go hunting, each kid peeling away to their flats for a weapon and a check-in, with a last lingering shot on Moses's door.
