Review of Attack the Block (2011) by Rupert B — 04 Feb 2015
"So that's how British kids talk." - me after watching this movie. The reason I didn't like this as much as most was because I took nothing away from it; I didn't care what happened to any of the characters and I was able to correctly predict the ending an hour into the film (which by the way, was ridiculously cheesy).
Sure, it was fun, and Boyega was quite good as the gang leader, but the plot was generic and the supporting cast (specifically the rest of Boyega's gang) was just terrible. This movie is a perfect example of why child actors suck.
Well, there are some exceptions, like everyone on Game of Thrones, the kid in Looper, and Quvenzhané Wallis, but for every Arya Stark, you've got 100 Phantom Menace bowl cut kids. Ok, now I'm getting off topic.
The best thing this movie had going for it was the frantic pace. Joe Cornish managed to fit a ton of action into just 88 minutes. Oh, and Nick Frost is in this too. I'm just disappointed I didn't get to see him crash through a fence running from an alien.
And how come no one else in London noticed the pack of aliens out on the street? 4/10.
