Review of Attack the Block (2011) by Edward G — 08 Sep 2012

I don't quite get all the adulation. My main problem with it was that the lead characters, a group of London 'youvs' who introduce themselves by knocking down and robbing an innocent woman, are supposed to be the good guys.

It being a story of their 'redemption', we're supposed to route for them, but considering those are exactly the kind of people I hate, I spent most of the time routing for the aliens. Out with that it's a perfectly fine, well-crafted and at times blackly funny film.

I just don't think a film works very well if you hate the protagonist(s) . However most people don't seem to have been bothered by my issues with it, so chances are you'll like it more than I did.

Certainly no Shaun of the Dead.
