Review of Attack of the 50 Foot Woman (1958) by Steve R — 23 Dec 2008
Some films scream out for the Science Mystery Theater treatment. Luckily for us, some of them are short. Coming in at a little over one hour, this classic has revenge story plot and its manifestations.
Nancy Archer (Allison Hayes) is a woman wronged by her no good husband Harry (William Hudson) whoâ??s catting around with some chick named Honey (Yvette Vickers). Because men run the world and Harry has emotionally blackmailed Nancy into being his doormat, she is powerless until she sees a UFO. When you see this UFO, you will hear Servo and Crow in your head commenting on the state of special effects.
Nancy, being female, is thought hysterical when she tries to tell people of this. Harry threatens to lock her up and is looking forward to doing so in order to use her money to fund his lifestyle which involves Honey.
Unbeknownst to the parties involved, the UFO put a zap on Nancy that makes her grow. Again, Servo and Crow will echo though your mind as you watch the methods by which the Doctor tries to keep a giantess sedated.
Eventually, justice is served and the ending is classic in that it just happens.
If you are curious, it is not a bad way to spend one hour and six minutes of your life.
