Review of Atonement (2007) by James C — 22 Aug 2011
An astonishing adaptation of Ian McEwan's suspense war romance novel. It is a movie of such devastating beauty and heart-aching power that it will leave you breathless and stay with you for days. A review on the DVD case reads "as close to perfect as a movie can get".
I'm actually amazed that No Country for Old Men - an imperfect film if ever there was one managed to nab the Oscar that year as Atonement is undoubtedly the better movie. And this from someone who doesn't particularly like the romance genre which is why this movie has managed to evade me for so long.
