Review of Atonement (2007) by Maria E — 04 Feb 2012
Breathtaking cinematography. I couldn´t believe how amazing some of the scenes were. The evacuation in Dunkirk is something out of a nightmare, but a gorgeous one. The soundtrack, with all those writing machine sounds, is not for everyone. I thought it was great. James McAvoy is brilliant, as is the young girl Saoirse Ronan. My only problem with this movie is that amidst all the gorgeosness and elegance there´s something missing. You want to believe in the love of those two people, but there just isn´t time in between all the turns and twists of the script to establish it. I missed a bit more emotional engagement to back up such a dramatic love story.
Yet I choose to love this movie -there´s just too much beauty in it.
