Review of Atonement (2007) by Mark W — 22 Mar 2014
James McAvoy turns in a fine performance in this beautifully-shot piece. In fact, this movie has everything except a great screenplay. The film is in three parts/acts. The first act/part does the setup perfectly, but the second act gets sidetracked in a way that is fine in a book but inexcusable in the cinema.
Consequently, the third act falls a little flat. Occupational hazard of transcribing a work of literature to the screen, perhaps. Still very much worth getting out on DVD. It may get a little lost at times, but it never drags.
