Review of Atonement (1971) by Jason R — 24 Jan 2011
I never really felt speachless about a movie before. I'm not saying it was the best movie ever but I am saying that it was really really good. It's more than just a love story, it's a life lesson.
The pov's n this come together to form a tragic and beautiful tale of anguish and passion. Joe Wright is the best thing to happen since...well, since a very long time. The camera angles are enough to gaze at when ur not looking at the great performances, especially the tracking shot of the beach and the british soldiers waiting to go home.
Speaking of which, Knightley, what a moving portrayal from an actress with such great presence and power. James McAvoy, excellent bravado and confidence. And Romola Garai, Vanessa Redgrave, and Saoise Ronan put together a woman who is innocent and is honestly sorry for all the wrongs she made, especially to her sister Cecilia and Robbie.
I don't expect many ppl I kno to like it, but I will at least. Again, the movie is so much more than just a simple love story, it doesn't make the mistake that many romance movies make; it doesn't define itself as a romance.
Again, it's so much more. Breathtaking!
