Review of Atomic Blonde (2017) by Luke E — 14 Aug 2017
From one of the stunt team members of 'John Wick', comes a hard hitting action flick adapted from Sam Hart and Antony Johnson's Graphic Novel; 'The Coldest City'. It's easy to say right off the bat the lavish cinematography capture a perfect slick retro and dirty beauty of war torn Berlin right before the falling of the wall, it amazing to look at.
As is the amazing stunt-work and action, all those sequences are thrilling from beginning to end. The narrative itself is solid adding some genuine style to reflect the hard times of the late 1980s with kinky tunes and fast paced editing to keep the story going.
Though the fundamental flaw of the film is within it's plotting, it lack the graphic novel's thinking power despite being a very spiced up adaptation. Nonetheless, the acting was solid from a talented cast, with Charlize Theron proving she's a woman of hard hitting action, even after her supporting role in 'Mad Max: Fury Road'.
There's also no denying that this is a film all action fans crave, despite it's flaws it makes up for some amazing thrills from start to finish, sharp dialogue delivered from it's actors and a very sexy undertone to go with it's main protagonist.
Don't think of this film as a 'Jane Wick', it's far from it, though it's most certainly an instant hard hitting cult entertainment romp that delivers what it delivers.
