Review of Atomic Blonde (2017) by Brendan N — 02 Dec 2017
This is one of those films that looked to be something truly different and unique. The filmmaker was coming off a great John Wick creation and instead of following that franchise, chose another path. I couldn't get into the film, it just missed something that left me scratching my head at the end.
The structure of the film was a little odd and the flow of the storyline attempted to mix in a certain style and tone which works, but leaves the film quite cold. Splicing the film with future conversations about the events in the film is a gamble that can only payoff with a great reveal, which I think this film fails to deliver.
The film attempts to balance a storyline with kinetic action and this works for at least the first half before losing us in the second and third. This could have been one of the better 2017 films had they created a better story arc.
