Review of Atomic Blonde (2017) by Tim M — 08 Jan 2018
**.
I almost - almost - gave this movie three stars, mainly because of one amazing 7 minute one-take action sequence that is undoubtedly one of the best fight scenes in recent memory. But it's not enough. The direction, cinematography and performances are good, but the rest of 'Atomic Blonde' is hugely underwhelming. The story is one of those cliche twisty-turney spy espionage plots that has nothing beyond twists. The soundtrack, although filled with some great songs, doesn't fit when it's used and is used for - what a surprise - style and 'coolness'. And that's this movie all over. It looks cool, it sounds cool - but it's empty. A couple of years ago I would have liked this more but, once you realise what these movies are, it's very hard to give them a positive rating.
