Review of Atomic Blonde (2017) by Martin S — 05 Mar 2018
As a big fan of Charlize Theron, I had to see Atomic Blonde. Atomic Blonde is a spy flick that is set during the time the Berlin Wall fell. Charlize Theron is Lorraine, a spy that has to recover a list of names of agents. The plot itself is very convoluted, yet still quite predictable. Lorraine, as the movie's protagonist, gets close to zero characterization and thus, it's very hard to care for anything she does. I get that this is the sort of character the director was looking for, but this has been done far better in other movies. James Avoy as CT's partner in crime breathes at least some life into this movie, while the other characters are quite forgettable.
The whole action is accompanied with a decent 80s soundtrack with songs from performers like Nena, David Bowie and Peter Schilling.
The action sequences are very over the top and are shot with few cuts. There is a very long fight sequence on a staircase that is quite impressive.
Verdict: If you like action movies, especially with a female lead, it might be worth a watch. Just don't expect an interesting plot or characters.
