Atomic Blonde mixes modern stylized violence with visceral trauma and damage, in a sense straddling a line between classic and modern Bond in style. In what is likely going to be a polarizing choice Charlize Theron inhabits the traditional archetype of the male action hero: She's hard fighting womanizer (yup you read that right).
This work is based on a comic book and it shows with it's attention to visual style. In the end the movie is a lot of flash plastered on top a by-the-numbers cold war story. I found the setting and time of 1989 Berlin more interesting than the McGuffin hunt the story was based upon.
It earns its "R" rating in spades with lurid sex, frequent nudity, graphic violence and of course strong language.
