Review of Atomic Blonde (2017) by Tommy R — 03 Aug 2017
Pretty good... truly had a 80's and early 90's noir. nostalgically it reminded me of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone action flick. Geena Davis's "A Long Kiss Goodnight" comes to mind. I half ass expected to see Samuel L Jackson to be one of her contact operatives though he'd be out of place in Berlin, plus I got a "12 Monkeys" surreal like vibe. for me it was like being transported back to that era.
The movie's use of sound track and background music was like that of that decades feel when cueing you emotionally for the scenes involving action/suspense. the style of sound depicting the year's music between 85 -89 sold it for me.
Fight choreography was beyond on point. give the action director and editor gold stars because Theron's body double and expert editing, for the most part, during the really extreme and brutal MMA type brawl scenes it will fool an experience movie snobs eye.
The story plot and screenplay was a 2.5 out of 5 but every actor came to play their part and you can see it come across on screen.
This isn't a female John Wick or Jason Bourne but a action packed gritty James Bond spy thriller that pulls no punches and keeps you guessing all the way to the closing credits. I hope there's a sequel because I like to follow our female protagonist around again or at least another female spy similar in this spy movie's universe..
