Review of Atomic Blonde (2017) by Dan H — 18 Nov 2017
A spy thriller/mystery. The cast is top notch (consisting of John Goodman, Charlize Theron, James McAvoy, Til Schweiger, Toby Jones, Sofia Boutella, and Bill Skarsgard), but aren't really given much to do, though it is nice to see Theron kicking butt (she seems to be doing some of her own stunts).
The style, action, soundtrack, and cinematography (cinematography (by Jonathan Sela) are all superb. Unfortunately, the plot is your typical spy thriller involving an agent who is the best at what she does, a double (or maybe even triple) agent, and a list that has the potential to burn many spies currently working.
The mystery isn't all that interesting, and it all grows confusing and convoluted pretty quickly. If you want your film oozing with style and interspersed with high-octane action (though there isn't quite as much action as you would expect.
A good deal of wandering around in-between the action set-pieces) and don't care for much else, maybe Atomic Blonde would be your cup of tea.
